Social media are websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. There are three ways to use social media:
- You could be a publisher and share the content you make or repost on social media,
- A consumer and just look at content made by others without making your own original content,
- Or you could be the person who does both.
A lot of people, especially teenagers, use social media, but are they using it properly? There are two most important rules that everybody should know.
1. They should not be just consumers. If they are looking at educational content, or funny, relaxing content for about an hour a day it’s ok, but if they are using it more than that every day then that’s not good. By creating your content you are being creative and expressing yourself and your thoughts in your own way, be it pictures or memes.
2. You should watch what you post. You can’t just post everything. Everybody knows that you can’t post your own personal information. But on a lot of social media you can see people showing off their looks and posting sexualy provocative content. When teenagers see that they could think that that person is cool and they would want to be like that person. Then they would start making similar content as that person did, which is forbidden on most of the social media since teenagers are not adults yet. Teenagers could also feel insecure about their looks after seeing those pictures, because they are in a phase of life where they feel insecure about themselves and when they see a person who in their eyes looks better then them, of course they would feel even more insecure about themselves.
